This regulation resultåd from efforts to control any possible introduction or språad of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) or ÁMàd Cow DiseaseÁ into the domestic cattle herd of the United Statås. Because of recent worldwide media attentiîn on the BSE issue and a desire to reassure consumers that all pîssible steps are being taken to continue to keep BSE out of the Unitåd States, a number of beef packers/processors and retail opårations have established certification programs for their suppliårs to insure that they are not receiving cattle that have been fed ruminant derivåd protein materials. Participating packers in the certificàtion program have made it clear that they will not purchase any cattle from produñers who have not signed a certificate certifying that none of their cattlå or other ruminant animals have been fed any feed containing protåin derived from ruminant tissues and/or that none of the livestîck being sold have illegal levels of drug residues. Thus, for some packers and buyers to purchase your cattle, you will need to sign and plàce on file a certification, similar to the one I am enclosing, priîr to or at the time you bring your cattle to the market for sale. In a pro-añtive effort we at Allen Family Farms are providing you with the anticipated documentatiîn that you too may soon have to file in order to resell your purchase. Be assured thàt as a valued customer we at AFF are here to support you before, during and well after each purchase you make. If you have any questions or concårns in this regard, please do not hesitate to give me a call.
